The official schedule for the 2011 season for the Texas Tech Red Raider football team has been released. The Red Raiders will play three non conference games and play all nine teams in the Big 12 conference. Tech will also play a total of six home games and six road games.

The Red Raiders will kick off their 2011 season on Saturday, September 3, at Jones AT&T Stadium when they play host to Texas State. The season opener for the Red Raiders with the Bobcats will mark the first time in school history the two teams have met.

Texas Tech will be open during the second week of the season before returning to non conference action on September 17th at New Mexico. The Red Raiders will close out their non-conference schedule on the 24th playing host to Nevada.

2011 will also mark the first season in Big 12 play that there will be a true champion crowned. Texas Tech will play every team in the Big 12 conference during the season for the first time in program history. A true champion will be crowned now that there isn't 12 teams or a championship game. Colorado (Pac 10) and Nebraska (Big Ten) left for other conferences during the off season.

The Red Raiders will open up their 2011 Big 12 season on October 1 when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to battle the Jayhawks.

Other marquee match ups for the Red Raiders on the 2011 season include home games with Texas A&M (Oct. 8 ) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 12), and road games with Oklahoma (Oct. 22) and Texas (Nov. 5).
