The 2013 edition of the Miracles Christmas Parade has become a casualty of Mother Nature. The icy weather in Lubbock has forced the cancellation of this year's parade.

According to Parade Wrangler Jeff Reese, several parade entries pulled out Thursday afternoon due to the weather.

“I assure you this decision has been made with due diligence and with great care and concern for everyone involved,” said Reese.  “We are sad to cancel this very popular Christmas event for the more than 25,000 spectators who were expected, but the wellbeing of everyone must be considered,” Reese continued.  The event will not be rescheduled this year.

“I want to express my thanks to everyone involved with our parade for their time and efforts to prepare for our event on Saturday, but this decision to cancel seems the right thing to do,” said Parade Chairman Andy Turner.  “We got within about 48 hours of the parade down 34th Street and that makes this announcement a difficult one.  However, we will start planning now for our 2014 parade and hope everyone will join us in working for a bigger and better parade next December,” Turner concluded.

Turner urged the public to give their unwrapped toys to the U.S. Marines, who’s ‘Toys For Tots” project was benefitted by the 34th Street parade.

The Miracles Christmas Parade was scheduled to be held Saturday, December 7th with the parade route on 34th Street from Toledo to University Avenue. The parade will return in 2014.
