Lubbock police are treating the drowning of a 3-month-old baby as a homicide.

According to Everything Lubbock, Lubbock police and EMS responded to a call Wednesday morning (September 23) that a baby was found unresponsive inside a home on 37th Street. The baby was taken by EMS, but died.

Following the child's death, police said they would be treating the case as a homicide investigation.

An eyewitness told the news site that the child's father fell asleep while the baby was taking a bath. Police verified part of that story, saying that while the father was taking care of the child. However, it's yet to be confirmed that the father was asleep. The child was reportedly left alone inside the bathtub in a bath seat.

[Update] The baby has been identified as Vera Ruth Livesay. She was transported to UMC where she was pronounced dead. The baby's father, Michael Wayne Livesay, has been arrested for Injury to a Child.
