I previously wrote about 5 must-have, only in Lubbock meals, but I think it's time to expand that list just a bit. Though the selections here are number, please don't think they are ranked. These are just five more ideas for you to check out when you are hungry.

Are you ready to step up and check out some amazing food? Here are some local foods that I really think you should try before you die.

    Pete's Pastrami

I cannot speak for all the Pete's locations. I can only speak for the one outside the loop on 529 34th (originally known as Pete's #4). Pete's makes an overstuffed pastrami sandwich that is just heaven on earth. If you'd like to know more, I've written an entire blog about this sandwich.

    Cattle Baron's Salad Bar

Yeah, it seems weird to go to a steak place for salad. Heck, for me it seems weird to go out for salad. All I can say is that every time I've gone to Cattle Barron, I've been full before my meal even arrived. This is a big, hearty salad bar with choices like pea salad and kidney bean salad to set by your leafy greens.

    Cagle's Steaks

We have any number of great steakhouses here, but Cagle's is a bit more of a 360 degree experience. There's just something special about making the trip out to the compound and watching those cowboys grill steaks over an open flame. You just don't get that anywhere else.

    Big E's Barbeque

Out-of-towners get confused by Big E's. He doesn't operate a traditional restaurant. He's the Lubbock equivalent of New York street food, even with his brick and mortar stop in the Depot District. I always go for the sausage (which gives you the one-two punch of being supplied by Raider Red Meats), but Driver swears by the shrimp, which is only available once in a while.

RIse N' Shine Donuts Apple Fritter

There is no better tasting pastry in Lubbock than the Rise N' Shine apple fritter. Let's be real: They look like horse patties and you'll be filled with regret if you eat a whole one, but it is a sweet, apple-y, wonderful regret. I only allow myself one of these every couple months. They are amazing.
