To quote a friend: "It's almost Christmas in Lubbock, oh sh*t!"

Yep, he has the holiday spirit and so do many Lubbock folks. Get ready for a whimsical look at some possible fake Hub City traditions.

Holidays in the Hub are just a bit different than anywhere else. Like many other countries (which we are suspicious of because the people who live there look different), Lubbock has its own rich history of celebrating the Yuletide season.

Here are some traditions that you may or may not have heard about.

    Silent Night, Smelly Night

Who doesn't love the smell of fresh cut Christmas trees, tinged with the overwhelming smell of manure coming from the feedlots? It's a holiday bouquet for young and old! It's especially great with a big ol' cup of hot chocolate. It's almost like you can taste the feedlots with every sip!

    The Carol of the Coughs

It's just not the holiday season without a round of Yuletide upper respiratory attacks. There's something about a hacking wet cough that reminds us of old Frosty's big, scary, wet mouth.

Lubbock folks love to spread the holiday hacks in small, cheery spaces.

    The Maddening of the Faithful

Christmas is all about sharing, and each year the Santa snots are shamed for enjoying themselves by the holier-than-thou screams of "There's a War on Christmas!"

Yes, nothing says 'holiday cheer' like telling someone else how they should celebrate the holiday or that they're not celebrating it the right way.

    The Driving of the Fools

Who needs a sleigh in good ol' Lubbock? As a matter of fact, who needs turn signals?

Each Christmas season, folks from all around the area head to the brightest light on the South Plains and easily become confused by the things we call traffic lights.

Maybe they're just enjoying the lights as many Christmas fans do.

The Roasting of the Prairie Dogs

Who doesn't love to step up to the Christmas table and see a succulent stuffed rodent? Sure they're cute, but they're even cuter with a grape stuffed in their little dead mouths (apples are too big).

They're not only tasty, but easy to find by the side of the road. Each one is pre-tenderized with tire marks and garnished with gravel. Yum!
