Today is Earth day.  I think one of our basic responsibilites as humans is to take care of our planet so future generations will get to enjoy the planet.  That's about as hippy-dippy as I get. It's simple. You want your grandkids to have clean air and water right?  Okay, then check out my list of REALLY simple tips.

5. Plant a tree.  Yeah, we need to conserve water, but trees scrub the air.  They are essential to help with air pollution.

4. Xeriscape your garden (some times called Zeroscape). All this means is using plants that require little to no water and adding features that require no water like rocks and wagon wheels

3. Wash your clothes in cold water.  There is no proof that hot water gets clothes cleaner.  You may want to use hot water after someone has the flue or something, but hot water is completely unnecessary in almost all cases.

2. Switch to florescent or L.E.D. lights as soon as possible.  You might even think it's wasteful to throw away a perfectly good incandescent bulb, but it's not. You can save those bulbs for emergencies.

1. Don't be a d!ck.  Throw things away in the proper receptacles.  Don't leave them or throw them where they can blow out freely into nature.

Bonus.  Switch to online bill pay. You can cut a lot of paper out of your life and all the energy it takes to make it, process it and deliver it.  Online gives you better record keeping too.

There are tons and tons of ways you can be environmentally friendly. These are just few things that require almost no effort at all.  Got tips?  Well, add them to the list!  Happy Earth Day!
