Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Joplin Missouri after a tornado tore through the town last night. Read more after the jump.

As a city that has suffered severe tornado damage we know the terrible suffering these people are going through.  Here's more on the story from USA TODAY:

Fire chief Mitch Randles estimated that 25 to 30% of the city was damaged, and said his own home was among the buildings destroyed as the twister swept through this city

Officials say the tornado cut the city in half and that about 2000 buildings were damaged.  They also say the count of injured and dead may rise now that the sun is up and they can better assess the situation. There is no word on relief efforts yet, but you can always count on the Red Cross to help.
