I don't know where all of these colloquial names for towns came from. It seems out of nowhere I was hearing Lubbock referred to as "Dirt City" and Amarillo as "Bomb City".  I'm sure there's more too.

So "Dirt City" doesn't have really good connotations Not only does the term dirt refer to all of these landscape we get in the air each year, "dirt" is also used as a pejorative, meaning "low" or "low class".

So while I don't know if it will ever catch on, but I'd like to suggest we start calling Lubbock "Pancake City".  Have you figured it out yet?  We call it "Pancake City" because it's "flat and round".  I guess you could also throw in, to a minor degree, the fact that we have a pretty big pancake festival, but thats more of an aside.

So, how about it? "Dirt City" or "Pancake City"?  Or do you have a more catchy alternative?
