I'm not operating with real numbers here, just some observations. People look for the slightest excuse to get out of something uncomfortable and voluntary.  Add a hundred degree day to a needle stick and people have a pretty good excuse not to help.

My fellow humans. We fight, we hate, we love and laugh.  Even with that we rarely recognize that we're all part of a big human family.  If you can help one premie baby get a good start on life or help one accident victim survive, we've done the world a solid.

I know you rockers are tough. You get tattoos and piercings or just get into mosh pits. Show the world your tough and that you care by becoming a regular blood donor.  You may not have cash or time to help charities, but surely you can find about 40 minutes once every four months.

I also like to "dedicate" my donations. It only means something to me. It's not like when you are donating for a person in the hospital, which can be done. It's more of an honorary thing I do.  This donation went out to the memory of Rowdy Roddy Pipper, my friends on Facebook fighting cancer and a sweet girl named Lilly.  Its not much, it's just something I announce with my "check in" at the Blood Bank, but honoring folks helps keep you motivated to go back and do it again.

Please brave the heat and visit United Blood Services at 48th and Avenue Q.
