I seriously hope this is blown out of proportion, but the ACLU has issued a Travel Advisory about Texas.

The move comes on the signing of SB4, or the "Sanctuary City" law.

The ACLU says this law gives officers the go-ahead "to investigate a person’s immigration status during a routine traffic stop."

This is some scary stuff. The ACLU warns people that travel to Texas may result in "the possible violation of their constitutional rights when stopped by law enforcement." The ACLU says that Texas could end up being a state where you have to "show your papers" at every traffic stop.

Let's be real here. This is probably hyperbole by the ACLU for the most part. The problem is, I had to say  "probably" and "for the most part."

Texas has to decide what kind of state it wants to be. Under SB4, a lot of our minority friends and neighbors are going to be open to additional possible harassment. Once again, Governor Greg Abbott and his bunch are going to set our state up for a bunch of lawsuits. Let's just hope our citizens aren't hassled too much in the meantime.
