I don't care what Meryl Streep says. I don't watch the Golden Globes. None of it carries much weight with me.

It seems some people don't think actors should have an opinion. I guess because they have a little bit larger proverbial stage to speak from?  That's really dumb and impossible to measure. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, how much stock is put into that opinion is up to you.

At the core here is the question, at what point does someone no longer get to have an opinion in their book? When they're in movies, on t.v., in a local play, or just when they hit "x" amount of friends on Facebook?

Then we have to ask ourselves what's next? So you get actors to shut up, do scientists get to speak? What about people who own businesses or lion tamers? In America, we all get to speak, regardless of social standing.

What we have here is a bunch of thin-skinned people who can't take criticism. Get over it. Most of Hollywood, the music industry, and the arts are populated by people with liberal leanings. It's just who arts people are. You can either listen to their opinions or not. If you think it's "unfair" that these folks have a bigger audience for their opinions, then just don't listen to them.

At the end of the day, Streep won a giant award and could have talked about herself for five minutes. It's probably better that instead of being a shallow, self-centered, empty-headed actress, she used that time to talk about something she thought was important, whether you agree with her or not.
