Lubbock Police responded to an armed altercation today at Smallwood’ s Appliance Store near 34th Street and Flint Avenue around 1:30 p.m Tuesday afternoon (December 2).

The situation began when James Moreno, an employee of Smallwood’s, got into an argument with a family friend at the family-owned business, pulled out a pistol and fired it inside the store.

An armed response team quickly arrived on scene and evacuated neighboring businesses including the Yellow House Coffee shop and began to talk with Moreno.

The family friend was released a short time later and Moreno eventually surrendered peacefully to officers before 2:30 p.m.
