Zakk Wylde Book Out April 10
Zakk Wylde can add author to his long list of accomplishments. The guitarist’s heavy metal handbook ‘Bringing Metal to the Children’ will land at book retailers on April 10 via William Morrow, which is a HarperCollins imprint. Wylde penned the book with the help of Eric Hendrikx. Despite the title, it’s not a book four youngins by any means.

James Durbin is a STAR
James Durbin, the former ‘American Idol’ contestant and resident rocker, has been confirmed as the spokesperson for the be a STAR Alliance, which is an anti-bullying initiative that was founded by the Creative Coalition and the WWE. Over 50 national organizations are a part of the alliance. Stamping out the pervasive bullying epidemic is of particular personal significance to Durbin, who was bullied since he suffered from a combination of Asperger’s Syndrome and Tourette’s syndrome.

Metallica Orion Music + More Festival Promoter Talks Diverse Lineup
Metallica announced their own Orion Music + More Festival earlier this month, which offers an incredibly eclectic and not exactly metallic lineup. Drummer Lars Ulrich addressed the diversity of the bill immediately, since the band pretty much knew fans might be scratching their heads about a lineup featuring Metallica thrashing about alongside indie acts like Modest Mouse and Best Coast. Ulrich said, “If you took our four iPods and scanned through them, you’d find the biggest variety and diversity of music. So we’re trying to bring that spirit to the festival.” Festival promoter Charlie Walker of C3 also weighed in about the unexpected acts Metallica chose to feature.

Wisconsin is going to be a mecca of hard rock from July 19 through July 22. The lineup for the 2012 Rock Fest, held near Cadott, Wis. has been announced and it’s heavier than granite.
