Awesome 98’s Interview With Don Henley Rescheduled

I was set to interview legendary singer and songwriter Don Henley of the Eagles and solo fame this morning, Jan. 19, 2016, when Glenn Frey, Henley's band mate and brotherly best friend, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016.

When we first heard of Frey's passing Monday afternoon, the initial thought was, 'I this a hoax'?  I reached out to Don Henley's management to confirm or deny the news.  Sadly, the email came back saying 'ALL TRUE... STANDBY'.

So the interview I was supposed to have with Don Henley has been, understandably, rescheduled.

We will let you know when that will be, because we will have a few vinyl copies of Henley's latest album, 'Cass County' to give away to our Awesome 98 listeners.

The album is a journey from Henley's childhood, growing up in East Texas in the town of Linwood, in Cass County, which explores his feelings, being back there as an adult. It's also a star studded combo effort with Mick Jagger, Miranda Lambert, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride and Ashley Monroe, whom Henley calls 'the next Dolly Parton', lending their voices to the already stellar lyrics and music.

I read many stories posted yesterday from artists, regarding Glenn Frey and his passing.  Among them Bob Seger, one of his best friends for 50 years, Linda Ronstadt, who hired Don Henley as her drummer and Glenn Frey to play guitar on her tour with her just prior the them forming the Eagles, to this one in which Don Henley says Frey was 'like a brother to me'.

I can't imagine how devastating this must be for Glenn Frey's beloved family, his friends and for the surviving members of The Eagles who lovingly referred to Frey as 'The Lone Arranger' due to the fact that he was the cornerstone for the band forming and staying together, in addition to being the backbone for many of The Eagles most famous lyrics, riffs, licks and amazing harmonies.

It's been a sad and forgive me, but freaky, start to 2016 with so many deaths of iconic music and film figures at relatively young ages,.from David Bowie, Jan. 11, 2016 to Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead Dec. 27, 2015, Alan Rickman from Die Hard and Harry Potter fame on Jan. 14 at 69 years of age and Dale Griffin, the drummer from Mott the Hoople, January 17th, 2016. Frey and Griffin were just 67 years old, Bowie was just shy of his 70th and Lemmy was 70.

Our heartfelt prayers and condolences are with all of the fans, families and friends of these great musicians, songwriters, singers and actors who have rocked us and entertained us!  Their films and music have formed memories which take us back to  where we were and what we were doing when we heard their music or saw them in movies, which have helped formed the memories of our own lives.
