The walk-on true freshman out of Lake Travis looked poised and sharp on Friday in Dallas.  For his grand debut, he earned Big 12's offensive honors for the week.

43 completions on 60 attempts, four touchdowns, and a total of 413 yards were all earned with his right arm and assistance from his receivers. Mayfield also used his legs on multiple plays, finding paydirt once for a total of five overall touchdowns against the SMU Mustangs.

Mayfield joins an illustrious list of quarterbacks that've earned the honor, including Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Robert Griffin III, Major Applewhite, and oh yeah, he's the only other freshman quarterback to win the award besides who else? Kliff Kingsbury.

Has Kingsbury become the Freshman Whisperer for the second season in a row? Time will tell, as "The Breadmaker" has his second test coming this Saturday against the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (my alma mater) at the Jones.
