Preparing for summer road trips in advance is your best bet. If you gather up the supplies and make sure they are on hand, you will have peace of mind out there on the road.

I learned to change a tire with Larry Williams of Williams Brake Tune & Tire in Lubbock and we covered a lot of ground, but one really basic thing we covered is a solid check list that will take care of your most basic needs, in cast of emergency on the road.

There are a lot of things you may not think of, but once you consider it, they make a lot of sense. It's the simple little things that can make all the difference if you're in an emergency situation.

There are some must-have items featured in the video above - stuff that's included in most car emergency kits you can buy in the store. Below is an extended check list from Williams Brake Tune & Tire:

  • One gallon drinking water
  • Food Bars
  • Phone charger
  • Blanket
  • Trash bags
  • Duct tape
  • Tire gauge
  • Extra fuses

Emergency kit (which includes a lot):

  • Temporary tire inflator
  • Booster cables
  • First aid kit
  • Flares/reflective triangle

Turn on your flashers and you can open your hood to let others and law enforcement know you're having car trouble.

Did you know that there is a phone number on the back of your Texas drivers license for roadside assistance? It's 1-800-525-5555

Also, if you're traveling into areas without much cellphone service, you may want to consider getting On Star. It's able to connect you to help via satellite and is not limited to cell service towers.

Safe travels, y'all!
