Wednesday night's Black Stone Cherry Show at Jake's Backroom (5-30-12) was red hot.   It reached 102 degrees outside, but the band and fans seemed unaware. Everyone seemed to be on a common frequency feeding off of each other.  With the bands strong southern influence they had this Texas crowd screaming and dancing nonstop from beginning to end.  "We are taking Southern tradition and giving a taste to the rest of the world," says bassist/vocalist Jon Lawhon.  (blackstonecherry.com) Our band is a positive band and we try to write songs that are uplifting, said drummer John Fred Young.

My short visit with the guys, as they geared up to take the stage, was so full of energy that I bet they don't need battery packs on their equipment, and watching Ben Wells on guitar was the closest thing to watching an energizer bunny commercial that I have ever seen! It was next to impossible to get an in-focus picture of him as he bolted around the stage like a Wild Stallion.

A partial play list included: "In My Blood", "Rain Wizard", "Like I Roll" (their latest single), "White Trash Millionaire", "Blame It On The Boom Boom" and covers like "Rocky Mountain Way", "Sweet Home Alabama" and Folsom Prison Blues.  At this point I succumbed to the party.  I have photos of the show, but these videos tell a better story.  They are really nice except for the big head that could not keep out of the shots no matter how I moved, teehee, but the audio more than makes up for it. For those that missed the show, here are some reasons to make it out next time they come to town. Black Stone Cherry Facebook.
