Meet the Diabolical Instrument Used to Create ‘The Witch’ Score

In a newly posted video, film score composer Mark Korven shows off his demon baby, a one-of-a-kind noisemaker he’s affectionately dubbed The Apprehension Engine. Tired of the same old samples cropping up in movie after movie, the musician (whose credits include Vincenzo Natali’s Cube and, more recently, colonial-era chiller The Witch) wanted something he could use to produce original sound effects. He commissioned guitar maker Tony Duggan-Smith to create the nightmarish machine in the video above, which uses metal rulers, curled scrap metal, and other assorted bits of junk to generate supremely disturbing... music?

Hank Deutschendorf, Baby Oscar of ‘Ghostbusters II,’ Dies at 28

Just last week, we were commemorating the anniversary of the release of Ghostbusters II, which opened in theaters on June 16, 1989. The movie came out 28 years ago, which means the twin babies who played Sigourney Weaver’s son Oscar in the film were about that age too. Alamo Drafthouse Sets ‘Wonder Woman’ Women-Only Screening and Some Men Are Being Real Weenies About It

Ladies: Imagine going to see Wonder Woman in a movie theater filled with nothing but other women. Sounds fun, right? The Alamo Drafthouse certainly thinks so, which is why the geniuses behind our favorite theater chain organized a special women-only screening of the highly-anticipated superhero film at their downtown Austin location. Unfortunately (but predictably, which is just as unfortunate), a whole bunch of dudes are acting like big whiny weenies about it — hilariously oblivious to how their sexist attitudes further prove the need for this event.

New Netflix Instant Releases: June 2017

It’s that time again: time to round up everything coming and going from all the streaming services at the start of the new month. Netflix has a pretty fantastic slate for this June, which includes their Cannes contender Okja, directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Tilda Swinton and Jake Gyllenhaal. There’s also a few popular 2016 releases like Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World, and Catfight, that movie about Sandra Oh and Anne Heche beating the living daylights out of each other. And if you want to hear a bunch of animated plants sing Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” give Trolls a shot.

Early Reviews Call ‘Wonder Woman’ the Best DC Universe Movie Yet

So far the reviews of the DC Extended Universe movies have been ... uh, what’s the opposite of good? Bad. They’ve been bad. The first three movies — Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad — have an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 36. That is bad. The opposite of good. For sure.
