Chris Cornell Performs Whitney Houston Tribute at President Obama Fundraiser
Chris Cornell paid tribute to late songstress Whitney Houston with an emotional rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ during his performance at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama last night (Feb 16).
The Soundgarden frontman is one of the most artistically diverse musicians to come out of the ’90s Seattle grunge scene. He’s performed nearly every genre from heavy metal to pop music during his career, but nobody expected to hear Chris belt out ‘I Will Always Love You,’ a Dolly Parton song that Houston turned into a monster hit of her own when she covered it in 1992 for the soundtrack to ‘The Bodyguard.’
Cornell brought the house down with his own unique rendition of the song when he closed out his acoustic set at the Obama fundraiser at the Nob Hill Center in San Francisco.
During the set, Cornell also performed ‘Redemption Song’ (Bob Marley), ‘Ground Zero,’ Wide Awake’ (Audioslave), ‘Imagine’ (John Lennon) and ‘Peace, Love, and Understanding’ (Nick Lowe).
