For the first time ever, we have the first round of rankings for the new playoff system set to be put in play later on at the end of this season.

Not surprisingly, three SEC teams are in the top four.

Nation-leading Mississippi State was no surprise as the first seed, as Florida State took the runner-up seed. Auburn and Ole Miss completed the quartet of teams.

Oregon earned a fifth-place spot, while Alabama sits at six, Big 12's own TCU holds seventh's seat, Michigan State occupies eighth for now, Kansas State is ninth and Notre Dame rounds out the top ten.
