Corey Taylor: New Stone Sour Album Sounds Like Pink Floyd Meets Alice in Chains

Corey Taylor had one hell of a year in 2011. Slipknot returned to the stage after the tragic death of bassist Paul Gray and Taylor went on a spoken word/acoustic solo tour and even released the New York Times bestselling book, ‘Seven Deadly Sins.’ In that vein, Taylor has wasted no time in 2012, hyping up the upcoming album from his other band, Stone Sour.

Taylor has whipped out some ballsy comparisons as of late. He recently compared his spoken word persona as Henry Rollins, George Carlin and Dave Grohl mixed into one. Regarding the writing process of Stone Sour’s future release, Taylor describes it as a concoction of Pink Floyd meets Alice in Chains.

“We’re still writing and recording stuff,” Taylor tells Artisan News. “Right now alone, we have 13 completed songs, with six more that I can demo, probably two or three that Josh [Rand, guitar] still has that we’re tweaking, and then a bunch that Jim’s [Root, guitar, also of Slipknot] gonna bring in.

“Our ultimate goal is a double concept album, which the only way I can describe it is [Pink Floyd's] ‘The Wall’ meets [Alice In Chains'] ‘Dirt’ on steroids. And I think it’s gonna be fantastic. And if I can pull it off, it’s gonna be the biggest thing we’ve ever done in our career.”

Stone Sour’s upcoming fourth album will succeed the band’s 2010 release, ‘Audio Secrecy,’ which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, selling 46,000 copies in its first week.
