Okay, now we need govenrment intervention. Somebody needs to get Obama off the golf course and onto this problem. Skyrocketing brisket prices may have a serious effect on prices at our favorite barbecue restaurants.

I still remember my first bite o Texas brisket (and pico de gallo). It's kind of strange because I don't remember my first Chinese food or piece of pineapple or whatever.  I was a party at a friends outside of town around 1983 or 1984.  Yep, I remember the brisket better than the year.

Anyways, brisket prices are shooting up.  Brisket was running restaurant owners about a $1.30 a pound last year and that price is now about $3.70 a pound.  This probably isn't news to you, picking up a brisket in the market used to be maybe $15-$17 and now mid thirties are common.

Experts blame a couple things for the skyrocketing prices.  Some say it could be the drought conditions while others think it's the popularity of the meat spreading throughout the country.  So if you're expecting the price of briskets to come down, that's probably not going to happen. What most likely will happen is, the price of your barbecue going up.
