After wrapping up Gigantour last month, Megadeth has some down time before their next tour begins.  Frontman Dave Mustaine, never afraid to speak his mind, was a guest on the Monday, March 26 episode of ‘George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight’ and spoke about topics such as the Metallica documentary ‘Some Kind of Monster’ and President Obama’s birth certificate.

After a two minute intro piece about Mustaine’s career, the interview touched on a number of subjects.  Religion, politics and music were among the topics covered, with one of the most interesting sections of the interview focusing on Mustaine’s relationship with Metallica and his recent appearance on stage with them as part of their 30th anniversary.

When asked about the healing process between him and Metallica, Mustaine said it started with the documentary ‘Some Kind Of Monster.’ “We were still volleying barbs back and forth in the press because of that movie. I didn’t want to be in it after I saw the footage. I just figured I’m not going to be a part of this. But it came out, it was really good for me. That was the beginning of it [the healing process].”

The interview didn’t get too contentious, but there was a bit of tension as Mustaine and Stroumboulopoulos discussed President Obama and the “birther” issue. When asked about it, Mustaine replied, “I have a lot of questions about him, but certainly not where he was born. I know he was born somewhere else than America.”

Megadeth are set to begin their next American tour on May 3 in Biloxi, Miss.
