I supposed when you cast a light on something, that's all you're doing is just showing it for what it is. In the early days of it's "Food For Thought" feature, Channel 11 bringing Stubb's BBQ's health report to light struck a blow to the Lubbock landmark.

Who knows how Stubb's was doing before this report? It certainly seemed like it was doing OK at its location at the Interstate and 19th.

FMX was packing Stubb's for Monday Night Football, and they seemed to be doing well, bringing a fine selection of rock and blues to the Hub City.

KCBD had just begun making the weekly health reports a part of their broadcasts. You can't really hate on them too much, because they were doing their part to make sure people ate in cleaner kitchens.

The report on Stubb's BBQ was horrendous and top of the news. I don't remember it all, but it was none of this "uncovered drink cup" stuff that serves as a violation these days. I remember roaches were a big part of it, and jokes made about the place after that. I also remember guitar slinger Jesse Taylor being the first to stick up for Stubb's in the media by conducting an interview while chowing down on a plate of barbecue.

C.B. Stubblefield died in 1995, with the restaurant shuttering not long after, but I truly believe it was that "Food For Thought" broadcast that led to the quick demise of the restaurant.
