Monday on The Chad Hasty Show, Texas District 19 candidates Jodey Arrington and Glen Robertson joined the show for a live debate on issues facing the district, as well as the nation.

The runoff election will decide who replaces long-time District 19 Representative Randy Neugebauer. It takes place on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

The debate was moderated by show host Chad Hasty, and was designed to allow the candidates more time to answer questions in detail.

Issues discussed included the candidate's varied experiences, agricultural and wind energy subsidies, illegal immigration and border security, crime and punishment, and the Republican commotion surrounding Donald Trump as the party's presumptive nominee for President of the United States.

While talking about wind energy subsidies, Robertson said:

I don't think you can shut those subsidies off immediately overnight, because then you shut down the whole industry. But I think you need to pass legislation, and you need to give these folks in the business warning. 'You know what, you've a ten year decrease in subsidy, and it's going to sunset at the end of ten years. You've got that much time to develop your technology, and to try to get to the point where you can be competitive.' It is not competitive right now. Even with the subsidies, the wind energy that the city of Lubbock has purchased costs more than the gas fired energy that we purchase from Excel.

During the discussion about illegal immigration, Arrington said:

We need to turn the magnets off. We need to stop providing services to people who don't pay taxes and pay into the system. It is a drain on our system. We can't afford the system we have now. Last time I checked, we can't afford the services for the American people, nineteen trillion dollars in debt, with no end in sight. So we've got to enforce the law. President Obama decides when he's going to enforce a law. There's no rule of law, and it's shameful that a country as great as America is failing on this issue.
