Do You Have Any Idea What This Cake Is Supposed To Be?

Everything about my birthday was a little askew this year.  The good news is, I finally got a real cake with real icing (none of that whipped nonsense).  The cake is delicious, but the cake brings up a big question: What The Hell Is It Supposed To Be?

Now please don't think we ungrateful. I love this cake. Real icing and chocolate cake inside, what's not to love? But exactly what was the cake artist going for with this design?  I kind of get a paisley vibe from it, but the fact that there are just two of them, in some sort of yin-yang layout is just weird.  There's just something "off" or "unfinished" about it.  So what do you think the artist was going for?
