2016 continues to be a rough year concerning the loss of music legends, with Emerson, Lake and Palmer singer/bassist/guitarist Greg Lake being the latest to pass away on Dec. 7.

A posting from Stewart Young on the band's social media confirmed Lake's death, as the rocker succumbed to "a long and stubborn battle with cancer." The rocker was 69. Young's posting can be viewed below:

Lake's career actually started to take off as the vocalist for King Crimson before he left to form ELP in 1970 with drummer Carl Palmer and keyboardist Keith Emerson. The trio became of the top acts of the '70s progressive rock era.

“It is with great sadness that I must now say goodbye to my friend and fellow bandmate, Greg Lake,” Palmer said in a statement via his website. “Greg’s soaring voice and skill as a musician will be remembered by all who knew his music and recordings he made with ELP and King Crimson. I have fond memories of those great years we had in the 1970s and many memorable shows we performed together. Having lost Keith this year as well, has made this particularly hard for all of us. As Greg sang at the end of Pictures at an Exhibition, ‘Death is life.’ His music can now live forever in the hearts of all who loved him.”

During his life as a musician, his other credits included Asia, Emerson, Lake & Powell and appearances on singles with Shame and with Shy Limbs on top of multiple solo albums. But Emerson, Lake and Palmer was where he did most of his work, issuing nine albums as part of the trio between 1970 and 1994.

Our condolences to the family and extended musical family of Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Greg Lake.
