We have sad news report today as the rock world has lost another artist. Eric Eycke, who was a member of Corrosion of Conformity during the band's hardcore punk / crossover beginning, has passed away. The news was confirmed by the band late Friday night (Sept. 22).

In a post on their Facebook page (seen below), Corrosion of Conformity stated, "We are saddened to learn of the passing of one time COC vocalist Eric Eycke, whose broad musical knowledge shaped the band's early identity and whose energy is evident on our first hardcore era album Eye for an Eye. This simply does not seem real. We traveled far and wide in a sh--ty van, blowing up stages together, trying to live up to the likes of the Bad Brains and Black Flag."

Eycke's cause of death has not been revealed, though the band Red Death indicated the singer was in the hospital prior to the night of his passing. On Thursday (Sept. 21), the group posted, "We just heard the terrible news that Corrosion Of Conformity's singer Eric Eycke is in the hospital. Eric sang on C.O.C.'s incredible first LP Eye For An Eye. Without C.O.C. there would be no Red Death, period. Wishing him and his family the best!"

As both groups mentioned above noted, Eycke sang on Corrosion of Conformity's Eye for an Eye debut, a 19-track album rooted in the band's early sound before making a switch to more blues-tinged stoner rock with some sludgier moments. Eycke was a member of the North Carolina group from 1983 through 1984 and also performed on the Why Are We Here? 1983 split, Demo '84 and the Mad World EP which was released in 1992 but was comprised of Eye for an Eye era demos.

From all of us at Loudwire, we extend our condolences to the Eycke family, all his Corrosion of Conformity bandmates, friends and anyone who knew the singer. We invite you to take a look back at Eycke's time in Corrosion of Conformity with some footage of a 1984 show seen below.

R.I.P. Erick Eycke.
