The boobirds got really loud after Texas Tech's loss to Kansas State. While I have no reason to believe Coach Kingsbury is under any real scrutiny, I think it's important to look at what we have.

Coach Kingsbury is the perfect match for Texas Tech. If the guys bear down just a little bit more and the ball bounces our way just a little bit, we're in contention every year. Building a program takes a long time and constant change is about the worst thing possible.

He Is Committed to Texas Tech

Coach Kingsbury is where he wants to be. He's not shopping himself around. He would probably be happy to live the rest of his life as a Red Raider and that says a lot. He also serves as a great ambassador for the school and the program. He gives the team style points, and any attention we get is good.

    He Learns Quickly

Coach Kingsbury has acted quickly when change was needed. He's replaced assistant coaches, added better candidates and is quick to spot problem areas and do what he can to fix them. I don't think anyone could say that the coach is oblivious to any of the problems that the team has or has had in the past.

He Puts a Fun Product on the Field

I did not watch or listen to one Tommy Tuberville game. Not one. I went from every game with Leach to zip with Tubby. It just wasn't the kind of football that kept a casual fan like myself interested. With Texas Tech's current offense, however, they are almost always in the mix and it's very exciting to follow.

    Who Wants to Start Over?

It's pretty apparent that we don't accept out-of-towners. In the three to four years it would take for even the best coach to turn things around, the coach we already like could turn things around. Unless we can inject Spike Dykes with a youth serum, Coach Kingsbury is our best hope.

He's Doing the Best He Can With What He Has

No one wants to hear this or say this, but we live in Lubbock. Only certain recruits are willing to move out here in the middle of nowhere. Why would a recruit come to Lubbock when they could go closer to a big city or a beach? Lubbock is also one of the most conservative cities in the U.S. Whether you like that or not is one thing, but it's certainly not where many 19-year-old college football players want to spend some of the best years of their lives.
