Flyleaf kicked off their fall US tour in Lubbock, Texas with an energy that brought the packed house at Jake's Backroom to its knees.

Led by Kristen May, Flyleaf was truly at the top of their game. May jumped into the crowd and grabbed fans' hands, while Sameer Bhattacharya whipped his guitar with reckless abandon. The band favored music from the new album "Between the Stars," putting May's influence on the band's songwriting in the spotlight.

Critics who've doubted May, who took the reigns following Lacey Sturm's depature in 2012, were summarily silenced.

May's vocals oozed with power, heart and raw feeling. There was a noticeable awe that held the crowd tight as she delivered an intense performance mere hours after stopping by the FMX studio and belting out both "Platonic" and "Set Me on Fire" live on the air.

In a fall that is brimming with so many amazing rock shows coming to the Lubbock area, Flyleaf has definitely set the bar high.
