Former TTU Quarterback Responds Perfectly To Tuberville’s Iraq Comment

Tommy Tuberville
Rob Brennan, 1340TheFan.com

If you haven’t seen, former Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville compared the city of Lubbock to Iraq and Siberia, saying, “You run me off at Auburn and you ship me to Lubbock, Texas. I’m going to tell you what, that’s like going to Siberia. Somebody asked me, ‘What’s Lubbock look like?’ It looked like Iraq.”

Even if you give Tuberville the benefit of the doubt on the Siberia comments since Lubbock is a little isolated, it’s hard to understand how comparing a city to war-torn Iraq is a good play. Especially for a man who contemplated a gubernatorial run in Alabama.

My second favorite Texas Tech quarterback of all-time (even after he called me fake news for this story), BJ Symons, responded to Tuberville’s Lubbock-Iraq comments on his Twitter account:

Since his time at Texas Tech, Symons has been all over the world, playing in the NFL, NFL Europe and the Arena Football League before moving back to his hometown Houston, Texas. It’s clear though that Symons still holds his college home in high regard, which is awesome to see.

If Lubbock is looking for a brand ambassador, I’m sure Symons is up for the job.

Symmons wasn’t the only one to respond to the Tuberville controversy. Many Lubbockites responded to the ex-coach’s comments on the Facebook page of our sister station, FMX:

The comment section (mostly) directed its hate toward Tuberville. It’s nice to see some genuinely nice comments about Lubbock as well. It’s not the prettiest city in America, but it’s our city and I take pride in that.

Go Lubbock. I’ll let the comment section deal with Tuberville.

Maybe we can repurpose this chant for Tuberville?
