So much for the "rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air", the city has called off the annual fireworks display. Our sister station KFYO got the news this morning from Mayor Tom Martin.  The mayor said that drought conditions were just to severe to risk embers falling to the ground.  Lubbock isn't the first to cancel an annual display, Austin has already cancelled theirs.  Other cities are expected to join in on the ban.
