Former Hellyeah and Mudvayne guitarist Greg Tribbett has teamed up with his Mudvayne drummer Matt McDonough to create a new group. Their band is called Audiotopsy and will include Skrape vocalist Billy Keeton and bassist Perry Stern. The band have already completed recording their debut disc, which is currently being mixed and fans can expect to hear that music sometime this summer.

In a press release, Tribbett had this to say about the group, “I’m extremely excited about Audiotopsy. The music has everything you want in a record ... heavy/melodic/atmospheric/big hooky riffs and sing alongs as well. The guys in the band are great and we all feel as if this was meant to happen. Everyone is very artistic and we all felt an energy from our first meeting. We can't wait for the world to hear Audiotopsy and can't wait to get out there and tour the world. A/Y IS COMING! I'm ready to f--k sh-t up!"

Drummer McDonough chimed in, “From the first few notes I knew this was going to be killer. The chemistry happening just took over and spawned this sound, this animal. I'm super stoked to get this music out, and to get this band on tour. Let the madness begin."

Tribbett left Hellyeah about a year ago along with bassist Bob ‘Zilla’ Kakaha. The remaining members of the band had only this to say about their departures: “Things happen for necessary reasons. It’s so easy for people to assume or make up reasons for things. Don’t ASSUME anything! The reasons for this parting of ways was for the better good. When you hear the new record you’ll understand.” Hellyeah went on to release the Blood for Blood album, which has been one of their most successful discs to date.

Tribbett’s departure from the band also seems to have had a big impact on killing the chances of a full Mudvayne reunion. Earlier this month Hellyeah and Mudvayne singer Chad Gray had this to say, “I don’t know if the full band will [ever reunite]. Who knows — they might be putting something else together. We were talking for a while and that whole thing with Greg went down and everything kind of fell apart. Our relationship, which was the only truly solid relationship in the group, although Matt [McDonough] and I are still great, Ryan [Martinie] and I still briefly talk. I mean, the only way I personally would want to do Mudvayne is if everybody licked their wounds and got over it.”

More details about Audiotopsy’s debut album and the announcement of their label signing are expected soon. Meanwhile, the current lineup of Hellyeah are gearing up for a spring tour. They kick things off on Apr. 17 in El Paso, Texas. Check out their full tour dates here.
