So how do you stay in trouble with 'someone' at all times?  Simple: have an opinion.  You know what Howard Stern says the best way to be a great radio personality is? Have an opinion.  Yep, if you want (or have) to be popular, you're pretty much going to stay in trouble with someone at all times.

When you have as many readers as we do, or as many Facebook fans as we do, someone is always mad. In most cases it's purely because they didn't comprehend what you wrote.  Just for fun, yesterday I had my lawyer read one of my blogs and asked her, in a court of law, is there anything in this blog that would qualify me as a "hater".   Now the question is a bit of a joke, but she looked it over and completely understood what I was going for (thanks Suzie!).  Still there were people telling me I suck for who knows what reason underneath it.

Controversy isn't new to me.  These days when I get in trouble it's because I blog about a group outside of FMX listeners, but if you don't tune in, and there's little chance you ever will, I really don't care if I offend you.  I don't go out of my way to make them mad, but at the same time, I don't worry too much about it.  Anyways back in the old days I was under a lot of personal stress when another radio station came on.  I heard some of my old friends basically bailing on FMX which really pissed me off.  So, I had a free add in a weekly newspaper called "The Caprock Sun".  I did something I thought was brilliant.  I made an add that said something like "Fun Rock All The Time On 94.5 FMX" (I don't remember the exact words). Sound dumb to you?  It did to a lot of people, until they folded the add and it said "F@ck Rock 104" (but it wasn't edited).  Now THAT was meanness, not the stuff I do these days.  I also had the American Cancer Society try to get me fired for having cigarette smoking contests on the day of the Great American Smokeout( I was trying to point out that smoking is a personal decision and a legal activity and they had a bit of a problem with that).

How do I get away with it?  Well, longtime listeners know my heart and what I do for the community. My friends know that I'm generous to a fault. I also take the hate and try to turn it around and do something twice as good as what I would have done if someone hadn't called me out for some b.s.

So every week there's a new group saying I should be fired and that I'm losing listeners.  Well, I'm one of the top digital contributors in the company and FMX is the number one station for all men (and the RockShow is killing it too).  And it all comes down to one thing: having an opinion.

(Opinions expressed on this blog may not necessarily be those of Townsquare Media. They also have little to nothing to do with what is broadcast on KFMX. Not responsible for butthurt. I don’t take questions from anyone who does not donate blood, or donate their time or money to the community or charity. The world is full of a lot of people with a lot of different opinions, get a helmet and get over it. Respect, walk)
