Quick! Tell me why the U.S. hates Cuba?  Okay, some of you know about "The Cuban Missile Crisis" but can I remind you that was in 1962? That was 52 years ago. That's a long time to have a sore ass about something someones great-grandad did. Heck, we're friends with a country WE NUKED not long before that.

Moves were made yesterday to finally normalize relations between the two nations, including prisoner swaps.

Cuba is 90 miles away from the U.S.  It is less of a threat to the U.S. than Mexico and/or any of the other dictatorships that we've always had relationships with. You know what causes the fall of dictators?  It's the will of the people. How do you inspire the people? You give them a taste of freedom.  Just wait until Cuba gets McDonalds, new cars and more access to the internet.  You want less Cuban immigrants? Well Cuba is about to be a lot less miserable place to be and people won't have to defect to the U.S. just to visit their relatives either.

Cuba is also set to be a MAJOR tourist destination.  It's like a 30 minute flight or a couple hour boat ride. Just wait until the people and the government of Cuba get a taste of that tourist cash. Once that money starts flowing, there's no way the government will do anything to risk losing that money.

Of course the Anti-Obama folks are howling about this one, but I just don't see the gloom and doom of this decision.  We tried the old way in dealing with this country for 52 years, it's way past time to try something new. I know everyone around here hates Obama, but he got this one right.  It's a win for humanity and for peace.
