Let's start by throwing away some labels here. Liberal, conservative, mean whatever. They are little compartments that politicians and the media like to throw people into.  I don't believe anyone truly belongs 100% to either group.  It is time we get back to voting for candidates based on the issues and not based on what party they belong to.  When you vote straight up party without looking into the issues, you're just feeding a machine that was built to work for somebody else.

I am of a certain age and lifestyle. Gay marriage never did anything to hurt my marriage of 33 years.  I have friends who take pot medicinally (seriously, for back/neck pain, anti-anxiety and other reasons). I also have friends who prefer pot over booze.  I have friends who are seeing doctors for the first times in their lives because of Obamacare, and I also have friends who saw their premiums go up because of Obamacare.  I'd like to see more money go into improving roads, bridges and other infrastructure and less money go to other countries overseas. Now, before you label me a liberal, I also believe in most gun rights and I am not very emphatec to most homeless. I could go on and on about how I'm a mixed bag, but so are most of you.  I think it's just time that we quit rubber stamping whatever candidate our party of choice has thrown our way and start forcing these people on issues.  There was a time when a lawmaker took the needs of their district to Washington, now it's just about being a team player for their political party.

We can change all this. Register to vote and vote.  Do you want to see marijuana legalized? Then why are you voting for someone who is against it? Better yet, why are you voting for someone who hasn't even bothered to say whether they are for or against it?  It's time to press these issues and demand that our lawmakers become accountable to the people who elected them.
