Let's play a little logic game here, okay?

Q: What's the best way to keep someone from accidentally killing someone with a gun?

A: Teach gun safety.

Q: What's the best way to keep someone from driving over people or property?

A: Teach driver's ed.

Now, without looking ahead, see if you can get the answer to this one.

Q: What's the best way to prevent STDs and unwanted pregnancies?

The answer is, of course, "Teach sex education." The *derp* is Texas' answer to sex education.

The Dallas Morning News has a heck of an article on the topic, claiming Texas has TWICE the national average of teen pregnancies. In 2014, Texas came in 8th in the top states to catch an STD.

I know some of you think the best way to teach kids is to throw them in a lake and tell them to swim, or to go ahead and let them stick a fork in an electrical socket. But the rising rates of teen pregnancies and STDs shows it doesn't work for sex education.

We tried it your way, now how about we let a little science and health in the schools so your kids can get a good start on life?

Health class needs to go back as a requirement for Texas students. (What, you didn't know they stopped that in 2009?) In the meantime, talk to your kids. It's embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as dealing with an STD.
