Remember back when the water-park on the Brownfield Highway would feature the big July 4th fireworks display; seemed like all of Lubbock would line up on the highway to check out the fireworks and then pop their own right on the side of the road.

I remember how it always looked like a war zone with smoke and the smell of gun powder hanging in the air. It was truly a blast, but let's face it, it wasn't a very safe environment.

On Thursday, grab your lawn chair, bring your fireworks and head out to the White Horse & Ass Event Center. You can pop all the fireworks you want without 'anyone' giving you a hard time.

This 4th of July event offers up an alternative to the usual chaos, with live music from Darren Welch and prizes for the best fireworks display.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. $5 for adults, $3 for students, kids under 6 enter for free and it's BYOB .

It's time to start a new 4th of July family tradition.
