Fifty grand sounds like a lot of money, until you realize that only 10 to 15 percent is necessary to get out of jail.

This is not an indictment of the bonding process or the work of the Lubbock Police Department officers and first responders involved in this case. But the fact is, I think that bail was set way too low in this instance.

If all facts were considered here, we have a guy, James Albert Pritchard, who just last month was caught on camera being threatening to kids and women in a local parking lot, allegedly under the influence.

And now, Sammy Castaneda is gone and a family is broken.

I don't know what the family's wishes are. Whatever they want should be respected. Then again, this guy could be back on the street causing more mayhem for as little as $5,000. That's just ridiculous.

You may ask, 'so, what would be a good number?' With all the facts that are present here, including the suspect's history, NO bond should have been offered. This jackass is a danger to our community.
