James Durbin, the former ‘American Idol’ contestant and resident rocker, has been confirmed as the spokesperson for the be a STAR Alliance, which is an anti-bullying initiative that was founded by the Creative Coalition and the WWE. Over 50 national organizations are a part of the alliance. Stamping out the pervasive bullying epidemic is of particular personal significance to Durbin, who was bullied since he suffered from a combination of Asperger’s Syndrome and Tourette’s syndrome.

As one of the ambassadors for this cause, Durbin, long regarded as the man who brought metal to the ‘Idol’ stage by performing with Judas Priest, will work to help ensure that the be a STAR Alliance’s mission of creating and fostering both a positive and equitable social environment for people regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation through education and awareness is as actualized as possible.

“I’m honored to align myself with be a STAR in the effort to change the way people treat each other,” said Durbin in a press release. “Having been a victim of bullying, I’m excited to share my story and encourage people to put an end to bullying.”

The singer also filmed a PSA for be a STAR. It will air nationally via weekly WWE programming this spring.

Endless props to Durbin for using his newfound fame for good and to help others.
