Monday night, Lubbock learned that former Texas Tech Head Coach Tommy Tuberville would be part of the team calling the Red Raiders-Cougars game. And during a press conference Tuesday morning at Texas Tech University, current Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury reacted to that news.

In his usual understated style, a sly smile came across the coach's face, and he chuckled when asked by 1340 The Fan's Rob Snyder if he was surprised to learn about Tuberville's involvement with the game.

"How did I know that was coming," Kingsbury said, earning laughs from some media members. "Yeah, I mean, they're going to do what they need to do, so...I just coach football."

Tuberville didn't leave Texas Tech on great terms, and he's done little to ingratiate himself to Lubbock since he left. He exploded whatever love that remained this past May when he said Lubbock looked like Iraq and compared getting "shipped" there from Auburn to being sent to Siberia.

It'll be interesting to see if Tuberville has anything else to say about his former team or the city itself during the broadcast. 1340 The Fan contributor Rob Breaux expects Tuberville to say something stupid and is hoping he can "stay awake through the doldrums of his self-aggrandizing style of commentary long enough to hear it."

We'll find out one way or the other Saturday, Sept. 23 when the Texas Tech Red Raiders (2-0) take on the Houston Cougars (2-0) at TDECU Stadium. Kickoff is at 11 a.m., and you can listen to 1340 The Fan's pregame show starting at 9 a.m.
