LeGarrette Blount Leads Tampa Bay over Indianapolis, 24-17, On ‘Monday Night Football’
LeGarrette Blount scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 35-yard run with 3:15 to play to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a 24-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.
Blount completed the winning score by stretching for the pylon in the end zone to convert the touchdown before he was swept out of bounds. He finished with 127 yards rushing on 25 carries. The Buccaneers dominated the time of possession battle by a 39:00 to 21:00 margin.
Quarterback Josh Freeman added both a touchdown toss and run for Tampa Bay (3-1), which overcame touchdown passes of 87 and 59 yards from Indianapolis’ Curtis Painter to Pierre Garcon.
Garcon’s second touchdown put the Colts ahead 17-10 with 7:10 left in the third quarter, but Indianapolis (0-4) could not hold the lead.
Painter, making his first career start in place of Kerry Collins, finished with 281 yards passing and no turnovers. Collins had been playing in place of Peyton Manning, who is out indefinitely after off-season neck surgery. The 0-4 start is the worst for Indianapolis since 1998.
