In two separate agenda items, the Lubbock City Council approved mobile billboards and expanded area of operations for food trucks this fall.

Mobile billboard companies must obtain permits and will be subjected to inspections. The billboards will be driven around on box-truck frames and some will have LED lights accompanying the signage. The trucks will not be allowed to operate between 3-6 a.m.

Councilmembers noted that traditional billboard companies are not clamoring to get in on the enterprise, stating they do not see it as a viable business model.

Councilman Jeff Griffith said food truck operations, which began earlier this year, will expand into Lubbock’s medical district after requests from businesses and employees in the area.
