I received a little note from Lubbock Pastor Stephen Miller, whom I called out earlier this week for his hateful remarks about a local gay pride event. Here's my response.

Just in case you aren't in the know here: Miller, who is a pastor at  Lubbock's Temple Baptist Church, went to the Lubbock Pride event on Saturday, August 27 and pretty much went around being rude to the people there. He was angry about this "shamefest." In other words, he went out of his way to be offended by this legal community event in a public park.

He then sent me an invite to be on his radio show. Since I know his answers will be bible, bible, bible (and that more people heard me pass gas at 3:15 this morning), I declined with the following response:

As someone who would refer to the beautiful gathering I saw as a 'shamefest,' you are not worthy of my time. I’d like to remind you too that those people in the park were tax-paying citizens, something you as a preacher are not. They have MORE right to a public park than you. If you want to engage in politics, then pay the price of admission. Your behavior was viewed as rude and confrontational by those in attendance, including my daughter and future son-in-law. As for religion, there were two churches there that reached more people through their love and outreach than you ever will with your bigotry and hatefulness. If the sight of a kid in a rainbow t-shirt angers you, I suggest you seek counseling ASAP. As for your request for a discussion, it’s apparent that all of your answers come from The Bible, which holds no more weight to me than quoting a Spider-Man comic, and thus, is pointless.

Guys, I really don't give a hoot about what you worship on your own time -- kind of like you shouldn't give a hoot about what people do in the privacy of their own bedroom. It's simple: Keep your nose out of other people's business.

I would never walk into this man's church and tell him what he should believe. He should let these folks have their Pride event in peace.
