To be honest, I didn't think Lubbock's roads were that bad. I knew there were some problem spots, but many of them seemed acceptable. Boy, was I wrong.

Nationwide, we're 15th out of the top 20 for the worst roads in America. Nice.

Tripnet.org released a study that places Lubbock in the top 20 for the worst roads in America for cities with a population of 200,000 to 500,000. There's a different list for large markets.

To be perfectly honest, this organization is a non-profit paid for by insurance companies and businesses involved in highway construction and repair, so they may be biased due to wanting more road repair. But maybe they're not; I just don't know.

What I do know, is that according to their study, 39 percent of Lubbock's roads are in need of repair. That's not good. In fact, it's 6 percent above the national average. According to the study, the road conditions also cost Lubbock drivers over $800 extra dollars per year in vehicle maintenance and repairs. Well, crap.

Check out a link to a .pdf file of the study with all the info on it.
