In late 1966, several prominent Lubbock citizens, spearheaded by Clem Boverie, joined forces to raise the funds needed to establish Goodwill Industries in Lubbock.

Mr. Boverie approached the Lubbock Lions Club whose members agreed to donate $25,000-their largest donation ever at that time-and the Lubbock Rotary Club whose members committed $5,000.

In September 1967, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock, Inc. opened its doors at 715 28th Street. The organization boasted a sewing room staffed with experienced seamstresses, a cleaning plant to launder all saleable merchandise that was contributed, and a furniture repair shop.
