Metallica Memories: Summer Sanitarium 2003

Let's see, the lineup was Metallica, Linkin Park, Limpbizkit, Mudvayne & Deftones.  We took a bus up there and I distinctly remember getting drunk three times.  Drank, completely sobered up, drank, completely sobered up, then drank some more. Oh, then we went inside the concert.  I also remember feeling really, really bad around James when we went backstage because he had supposedly sobered up and I was completely wasted.

The boys from Met met us backstage and everything was cool. Robert was so new he signed the back of the ticket instead of the front like everyone else.  We had a skybox for this show, but part of the deal was you had to buy concessions. As you can see, we did a pretty good job of it.  How about that $60 dip?  Then there's the booze.  I also remember that after Met came on the people from the Eagle come over to party with us because we were the fun ones. At that point some of the  posers in other skyboxes had started leaving, so my friend Ricky went and grabbed all of their bottles of booze and we got insanely wasted.  It took like three full days to get rid of the hangover.

I also remember that we noticed a little brown lump up by the window and no one really investigated it.  Then when Metallica hit that first explosion, the lump stretched it's wings and flew away. It turns out it was a bat that was asleep or something.
