Michael Young Wants Out of Texas [PICS]

Long time, and fan favorite, Texas Rangers third baseman Michael Young has requested that the organization trade him before the upcoming season. Young had been rumored to be traded during the offseason before asking for the move, himself.

This is the second trade request that the slugger has made with the Rangers, but many believe that this request has come due to his latest role change. Young was to become the full time DH and a utility player thanks to the arrival of free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre who signed on January 5th. Young has also moved other times during his career including a move to put Elvis Andrus at SS and Ian Kinsler at 2nd.

The Rangers, and their front office, have said that they will accommodate the trade for Young but they are in no rush. The trade will only take place if it benefits and makes the Rangers better.

“We think he can play a pivotal role on this, but we understand his feelings and that this is something he doesn’t want to do at this point in his career,” said Daniels on the move for Young to DH.

A few teams have already been rumored to be interested in trading for Young. Two of the four teams that are said to be interested in the slugger come from the AL West. The four teams include the L.A. Angels, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays and the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies were the original team that the Rangers had tried to trade Young to.

As of right now there is no time timetable set for trading Young, and no word on if they will actually move their longest tenured player on roster. Mike is entering his 11th season with the Rangers’ organization and is a career .300 hitter.
