As Rooster hit on earlier, Opening Day is that indication that continuous warm weather and the sweet, sweet smell of barbecue are both very near. It was a great first day of action, and even one of two Texas teams earned a victory. Get the highlights and scores for the day here.

Let's start off with the important teams. First and foremost, both Texas teams combatted this evening, as the Rangers battled the Oakland A's and the Astros fought with the Cleveland Indians. The A's shut out the Rangers, 8-0, but the Astros did the same to the Indians, winning 2-0. Those sneaky Astros just might be a team to watch this year, by the way.

In fact, shut-out victories were pretty much the name of the game Monday. Other than the aforementioned games, three other bouts were completely one-sided as well. The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-0, the Colorado Rockies surprised the Milwaukee Brewers with a true beatdown by a score of 10-0, and the Red Sox bludgeoned the Phillies by a score of 8-0.

Elsewhere around the league, the Toronto Blue Jays triumphed over the Yankees by a score of 6-1, the Baltimore Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2, the Washington Nationals fell to the New York Mets 3-1, the Royals were just that against the White Sox, driving in 10 runs to Chicago's 1; the Seattle Mariners escaped with a 4-1 win over the favored Angels, the Dodgers handled the San Diego Padres 6-3, the Braves outlasted the Marlins 2-1, and the nightcap featured the San Francisco Giants stopping a late charge by the Arizona Diamondbacks, as the Giants won 5-4.

It was a great first (official) day for baseball, as we saw many good pitching duels and plenty of offensive action. Hopefully your team did what they needed to do, and if not they have 161 more chances to get it right.
