A 1980 grindhouse classic that has reportedly been banned in 50 countries will play tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 18) in Lubbock.

The Italian-made "Cannibal Holocaust" debuted in its home country in 1980 (and later released in the US in 1985) to immediate controversy. The film caused waves for scenes depicting intense sexual and physical violence. It also was ahead of its time, using found-footage techniques – think "The Blair Witch Project.

Following its release, the principal actors were actually required to go underground to maintain the illusion of their death, said the International Movie Database.

According to IMDB, "Cannibal Holocaust" director Ruggero Deodato was actually arrested and charged with obscenity and the murder of several actors in Italian courts. Charges were eventually dropped when the actors appeared in court.

Since that time, Cannibal Holocaust has continued to make the circuits of cult-classic and grindhouse festivals as the reigning penultimate.

To get your chance to see this killer flick, reserve a spot at Lubbock's Alamo Drafthouse. The movie screens at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18.
